Buying a custom home is a big act of trust, and it should come with real protection. Every Black Cedar home is built by a TARION-licensed and HCRA-licensed builder, and comes with Ontario’s new home warranty. Here’s what that actually means for you — without the fine print.

What is the Tarion warranty?

Tarion administers Ontario’s mandatory new home warranty program. By law, new homes in Ontario are covered by a warranty backed by the builder, and Tarion oversees that builders honour it. In plain terms: your home comes with a legally required warranty, and there’s an independent body making sure it’s upheld. You don’t buy it separately — it comes with a home built by a licensed builder like us.

Coverage, step by step

What does it cover, and for how long?

Coverage steps down over time, protecting the big things longest.

First year

The home is protected against defects in work and materials, and against Ontario Building Code violations. This is the “settle-in” year where small items are addressed.

Second year

Continued protection for specific systems — including water penetration, and defects in the electrical, plumbing, and heating delivery, among others — plus Building Code health-and-safety issues.

Up to seven years

Coverage for major structural defects — the fundamental integrity of the home.

What “HCRA licensed” adds

The HCRA (Home Construction Regulatory Authority) licenses and regulates home builders and vendors in Ontario. An HCRA licence means we’ve met the province’s requirements to build and sell new homes and are held to a professional standard of conduct. TARION handles the warranty; HCRA handles who’s allowed to build. Together they mean you’re working with a builder the province vouches for.

How we handle warranty

Some builders treat the warranty period as an inconvenience. We treat it as the truest test of who we are. We walk your finished home with you before handover, address items promptly during your coverage, and stay responsive — because a home is a long relationship, and how we behave after you’ve paid us matters more than anything we say before. Good buildings come from good people; so does good service afterward.
